Platelet-Rich Plasma injections are used for pain relief and encouraging healing of affected joints. At Healand Clinic, we offer PRP injections as part of our pain management treatment portfolio.
PRP injections are targeted towards soft tissue injuries. These include ligament, tendon, cartilage and muscle injuries.
HOW DOES THE TREATMENT WORK?
A five to ten millilitre sample of blood is drawn and put into a machine that spins at very high speed to separate the different types of blood cells. Plasma is extracted from this sample and injected into the affected area.
The concentrated platelets found in this plasma contain the genetic information that is vital to repair damaged tissue in joints and muscles. The treatment helps promote the development of new blood vessels, and stimulates the healing process.
The treatment is administered using iIntra-articular or subcutaneous injections, and the whole process takes around 30 minutes to complete.
AltThough this is a very safe procedure, patients may experience some pain or bruising around the site of the injection. Full benefits of the treatment should be felt within one to three days.
A few sessions of PRP treatment may be required to achieve the desired result, and top-up injections may be required every one to three months.
WHO COULD BENEFIT FROM PRP INJECTIONS?
Patients suffering with sporting injuries or post- traumatic pain due to soft tissue injury may benefit from PRP injections. Treatment can be recommended following a thorough consultation process.
